5 Detox Water Recipes to Try This Summer

Drinking water is one of the simplest and most beneficial things that anyone can do for their overall health, but it’s also one of the things that most people forget to do.

One of our favorite #lifehacks that helps us drink more water is infusing it with fruits and vegetables. ‘Detox water’ or ‘infused water’ is nothing new, but for those that are just learning about this life-changing discovery, steeping certain fruits and vegetables into your water provides an array of health benefits, such as weight loss or skin-clearing.

Here are some of our favorite detox water recipes that we’ve been incorporating into our summer diet!

Welcome to Our Summer Series!

Hello and Good Day, Lavenderette's!

My name is Britney Egner and you may recognize me! I’ve been a model for Morning Lavender for the last two years- you might have seen my photos from their website and social media.  Most recently, I did a shoot for Morning Lavender’s Beach Collection.  I love working with Morning Lavender because they are more than just a clothing company - they are a lifestyle brand that wants to empower women and make them feel beautiful inside and out.

So I’m here today to tell you a little bit more about me.  I’m a free spirit and a sunshine and sand kinda girl from Southern California who craves an active lifestyle. I'm also lifestyle blogger and enjoy sharing my passion for writing, love for the camera, enthusiasm for health + wellness, and excitement on what's new in my life!

There’s a lot of information out there (especially on social media!) on how to look, eat, spend your time, and who to be. Well, I think it’s important to be just as happy as you are healthy!

I’ve worked in the holistic health and nutrition industry for years, so I’ll be sharing with you my tips, tricks, and secrets for living a happy, healthy lifestyle. I want to encourage you to overcome the stresses and expectations of society, grasp fearlessness, and try something new to create a better and healthier version of YOU!

Check out my tips for living a healthier lifestyle!

5 Simple Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle

Bikinis are everywhere right now - in your favorite stores and online shops and you can’t help but feel a little guilty about eating that ice cream sundae last night (but #treatyoself). I was super nervous when I did my own bikini shoot for Morning Lavender so I feel ya! Summer is here, and I’m more than excited to share my tips on how to get bikini ready by incorporating small and simple healthy habits into your daily routine!

When you love your body, your body will love you back. Get ready to “have your cake kale, and eat it too”!

1) Eat a Healthy Breakfast!
Start with a healthy breakfast! - Fuel your body, don't just feed it! Breakfast energizes you for the day, starts off your metabolism and motivates you for a healthier rest of the day!

Bonus Tip! Stay far from sugary, processed foods or it will make you crash in energy. Also, if you are drinking juice in the morning, I don’t recommend drinking any store-bought juices because they are high in sugar and additives.

What I am loving right now: Overnight chia seed oats or avocado toast with poached egg

2) Exercise
Incorporate a workout for at least 20 minutes (a little goes a long way!) in your day to get your heart and lungs pumping and your muscles moving. This will give your body the necessary movement it needs for those long sedentary work days! It also clears your mind, stimulates circulation, keeps your skin healthy and vibrant, helps prevent disease, and releases endorphins into your system increasing positivity, boosting energy, reducing stress, and keeping you fit!

Bonus Tip! My favorite way to exercise is by joining a class (like barre or spin) or get outside by incorporating cardio in a stair run, fast paced walk, or jog on the beach!

What I am loving right now: I love working out first thing in the mornings before work to jumpstart my day. I also make sure to walk around throughout the day to keep my body's blood flow circulating!

3) Stay Hydrated
This doesn't just include drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water but it also means drinking less caffeine! *gasp* one coffee a day can be a comforting and energizing habit but having two is when you start shocking your adrenals causing them to work harder which revs anxiety and causes dehydration, which can lead to headaches!

What I am loving right now: green tea (try Guayaki tea for a higher dose of caffeine)

lexi pink water bottle

4) Get proper sleep!
Your body and mind work so hard during the day, and use sleep for repairing! Give it some well-earned rest. Not to mention, you burn calories when you sleep! Say what!?

Bonus Tip: If you’re hungry before bed, have a snack that is high in protein so you are supporting your adrenals since they are wiped out from the carbs that turned into sugar throughout the day! This will help you sleep better throughout the night! (try: almond butter and celery!)

What I am loving right now: Diffusing 100% pure grade lavender oil, stretching before bed, and going to bed at a decent time.

5) Feed your soul
This is extremely vital for your health! We find ourselves “adulting;” stuck in a fast-paced society that is more loud and complex than ever. Finding time for self-care will in turn feed your mental health meter keeping up your immune system and overall, leave you refreshed. This is where you find what relaxes you best! It could be cuddling with your dog, spending time with a community of positive uplifting people, meditation, prayer, dancing or singing, taking a brisk walk, or maybe even sitting in complete silence.

What I am loving right now: I love setting my phone in the other room and spending time with my husband. I also love stretching and taking walks around our neighborhood with a warm cup of tea.

MORNING LAVENDER TURNS 3!

Today marks the 3 Year Anniversary of Morning Lavender and we cannot feel more #blessed. It feels like a long journey to get here but it also seems like just yesterday we were shipping out of our home garage. I’m happy and proud to say that our team has grown so much! In year 3 alone, we opened our first retail location, signed the lease for our second retail location, added 5 new employees, was featured in over 20 national publications, launched our first Classic Collection, collaborated on 2 curated collections, and doubled our social media followers! lace and locks, petite fashion blogger, bosslady lessons, girlbosses, morning lavender company, morning lavender office Year 3 has also met many challenges that prove to be learning lessons for us. We seek to improve customer service, web user experience, inventory management, order fulfillment, and address the challenges of balancing both our online and retail sales channels. I feel extremely grateful to have such a hardworking team that is dedicated to improving our Company each and every day. It’s been my job to manage our great team while also forecasting and setting the vision for our Company. As we celebrate our Year 3 today, we are also extremely excited for what lies ahead! We just signed the lease for a new warehouse (doubling our current size) and are working closely with our architect and contractor for the Fall opening of our Morning Lavender OC location. So how did we get here, you ask? Well, besides TONS of HARD WORK, we have a few guidelines that we always keep in mind when facing a decision (I will further address some of these topics in future blog posts!):
  1. Is this in line with our short term and long term goals?
  2. Is this on point with our brand message?
  3. How will this affect our customers?
  4. What is our return on investment?
  5. Do we have the resources and manpower to do this?
With all the growth, it’s important to us to continue to be Morning Lavender. We started out as a feminine boutique dedicated to providing beautiful clothing for women at affordable prices. We want to keep that as our focus and ensure that everything we do is in line with our goals and brand. Our customers are important to us so we have added measures like our product review system to help us know what our customers like and want. We want to deliver a better online customer experience as well as in-store experience. We have heard the news about notable retailers closing stores or downsizing and it scares us. So we want to grow but also make sure that our employees are happy, balanced, and that our overhead costs are still manageable. So, thank you for supporting us these past 3 years. We are beyond grateful for this opportunity and your trust. We are a small Company striving to be better and we appreciate your patience and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! BOSSLADY LESSONS

Hi friends! So I decided to start a new series on my blog called #Bosslady Lessons, where I provide an insight into my life as an entrepreneur and small business owner. Join me as I provide lessons, strategy, and tips on what it’s really like to own your own business. I’m also looking forward to your questions and suggestions for content regarding this. I receive quite a bit of emails on this topic and I’d love to have a forum to share my thoughts to your questions! lace and locks, female entrepreneur business tips, how to start your own business, boutique owner, small business advice For the first post in this series, I decided to give a brief background on what I do and how it all started! If you have been following my blog since the beginning, you might have read a bit about it in this post here and here. And if you haven’t, well here we go! I graduated college 15 years ago (yes, I look younger than I really am). I spent half of that time being a CPA/accountant and the other half, a business owner as a wedding photographer. Now, I’m the proud CEO of my own fashion boutique, Morning Lavender. I graduated UCLA with a degree in Business Economics and minor in Accounting. I am fortunate to have met so many great people and learned a lot of valuable skills while I worked in the Accounting industry, but I never really felt passionate about it. It felt more like a job and not a career for me. I was determined to find something I was truly inspired by and when I bought my first SLR camera for traveling, I developed an instant love for capturing memories and moments. I had found a creative outlet for myself and I had no idea that it would lead me to shoot over 250 weddings in a span of 7 years and eventually, quit my job as a CPA. I loved every aspect of being a wedding photographer - from the gorgeous details, to the fun couples, and all of the exciting locations I got to travel to. Plus, I met my husband while photographing a wedding - can’t beat that!!! ;) But what I truly enjoyed most was making my couples look good and I mean, damn good. I honestly think people hired me to make them look good, lol. So I started styling my shoots in addition to shooting them - I would advise my couples on what to wear and what locations, props, and poses would compliment them best. I found myself enamored with the ability to make people feel and look good. So after I got married in 2013, I started my own personal fashion blog to share my love for fashion and provide tips on where I shop and what I feel looks flattering on someone my petite size. I had such a frustrating time shopping for outfits for my engagement photos that I wanted to help others find an easier solution to dressing and styling. So this blog, Lace & Locks was born at the end of 2013. To keep content fresh on my blog, I did more shopping than ever and it quickly turned from a hobby into a second job, lol. My husband thought it was a hoax so I could just shop more! To make the process easier on myself, I shopped a lot online. But, after a few months of online shopping, I realized I couldn’t find all the cute, feminine, and dressy clothing I wanted in one shopping destination. So I thought, what if I started my own store and carried everything I loved to wear?! And what if I made it affordable so that everyone can look pretty all the time?! And so I did! If you know me, you will know I’m a go-getter. I set my mind to something and the wheels are in motion before I can even finish the thought. Yes, it gets crazy and stressful, but I just love creating things! So the thought for Morning Lavender was born in March 2014 and in May 2014, we launched our online site and had $1,800 in sales our first day! I owe a ton to my family and friends who supported me from the beginning and showed me that what I was doing wasn’t just a dream. After that, I hired 2 assistants to help me pack orders in our garage, yes our garage. It wasn’t the most glamorous situation but I knew as we shipped every order, we were on to something special. We even set up studio backdrop and lighting to shoot new arrivals in our garage. I’ll never forget the first time my mom saw my garage and when she realized I wasn’t just selling my own clothes for fun. It was definitely a learning process because I never worked retail before, much less operated an e-commerce store! I remember shipping my first order and realizing that I had the completely wrong packaging. Despite the struggles from the beginning, I stayed motivated and determined. I am a firm believer in hard work pays off and so with the help of my husband and amazing assistants, we spent almost every waking hour in the first several months (and probably still to this day) learning about the retail industry and how to make Morning Lavender better for our customers. I posted this quote from Estee Lauder on my Instagram recently, I never dreamt of success, I worked for it. It’s so fitting of my journey - knowing that I started from nothing and got to where I am all because of hard work and determination. So where is Morning Lavender today and what have we done to get it to where it is currently? Well you will have to keep tuning into the #Bosslady Lesson Series to hear all about it! Thanks for reading this long post and I can’t wait to share more with you all!
