August is a beautiful month! The summer season is finally transitioning into fall and what’s not to love about autumn?! The pretty leaves are falling and changing colors while your favorite cozy sweaters and classic cardigans are making their way back into your closet! Transitioning seasons also means transitioning your summer wardrobe to fall.

What I've Learned

Hey Morning Lavender family! It's Kim Le here and if you don't know me, I'm the founder and #bosslady at this amazing company called Morning Lavender! It's actually my birthday today so I decided to share a few things I've learned about myself (and for myself) this year. Running a company can be challenging so I'm always seeking ways to improve and grow. As much as I hate getting older, I do feel like I'm learning so much each and every year. So in no particular order, here are a few things I've learned:

1. BE YOURSELF. I know you must hear that a lot but it's really true not only in everyday life but in everyday busy. It's actually quite hard to be authentic in the fashion industry and we feel are customers are loyal because we always strive to be on brand and true to our style.

2. DON'T BE SCARED. I'm scared of quite a lot of things (i.e. ketchup, roller coasters, heights, etc...) but one thing I'm not afraid to do anymore is make mistakes. To be honest, we've made a ton of mistakes as a business (we are human guys!) but the important thing it to learn from them. We wouldn't be where we are today if we hadn't constantly strive to improve our product, efficiency and service.

3. BE NICE. It's easy to look cute on Instagram but you really never know what people are dealing with. Everyone has highs and lows in their daily lives so our policy is to always smile and be nice! We believe kindness (and cute clothes) goes a long way!

4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE. I know everyone says this, but I really, really love my team! It's important to have people that share the same passions and purpose. We are 90% female and we are 100% committed to bringing you beautiful clothes for every woman!

5. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL. This coincides with point #4 - if you have good people, you must trust them. It was hard for me to let go and delegate in the beginning, but now I realized that I must trust my team and the experts in my field. I don't have all the answers and teamwork makes everything better. Plus it allows me a true work/life balance and more time to play dress up :).

7 Barre Inspired Exercises To Do At Home!

Happy Friday, Lavenderettes!

Today, YOU can join me in raising the barre in your workout routine. If you are new to the term "barre", it is a ballet inspired workout that tightens and tones your body using good posture, tight and small movements, and elongated motions! It's a great way to switch up your workouts by tricking your body and strengthening your muscles creating an all over full body tone & who doesn't want that?!

The best part is - this routine is easy and can be done anywhere! (I used a chair from a kitchen table today!) Remember that creativity is key & whatever pushes you to get out of bed and sweat a little, do it! 

So, lets get ready to lift and relevé!

WARMUP - Knee Bends
Get your heart pumping and your body warm with this simple warmup!

How to: Start in a plank position on your elbows, straighten your back and legs, and bend your knees down, alternating from left to right.

Time: Alternate knees for 30 reps. (for a better warmup, hold the plank for 30 seconds longer)

 

Exercise 1: Pushup Variation
This exercise focuses on your arm and back muscles to give you that extra firm tone!

How to: Get in a push up position (modify with your knees on the ground until you get stronger!) and start with a normal pushup, then bring your hands in to a diamond shape. Alternate between the two types of pushups.

Time: 3 x 10 reps of alternating pushups.

 

Exercise 2: Bent Leg Lift
This exercise targets your inner and outer thigh.

How to: Start in a V shape position with your feet, bend your knees and lift your right leg in front of you raising it up a couple inches. Point your toes while you lift and lower your leg, 2 counts up and 2 counts down.

Time: 30 reps each side (for an extra challenge, hold your leg up for 30 seconds).

 

Exercise 3: Heel Touches
This exercise strengthens your core muscles with a focus on your side obliques!

How to: Start on your back, knees up, and hold your head up. Support your head with your left hand and with your right, reach down and touch your right heel. Switch and repeat.

Time: 30 reps on both sides.

 

Exercise 4: Narrow V
This exercise shapes shapes your quads to support your knees and burns lots of calories! The deeper you go the more you will work the muscle!

How to: Face half-arm's length from the backside of the chair and hold it lightly for balance. Press your heels together and open the balls of your feet two to three inches apart into a narrow v shape. Raise your heels about an inch off the floor, bend your knees, and come to your lowest point. Relax your glutes and calves. Move down an inch, up an inch, down an inch, and repeat! 

Time: 30 reps (for an extra challenge, hold the lowest position an extra 30 seconds).

 

Exercise 5: Standing Seat Work
This exercise works your glutes and outer thighs.

How to: Use a chair to press your heels together and open the balls of your feet two to three inches apart into a narrow v shape. Bend your right knee, and lift your left leg to the side, then 45 degrees back. Keep your abs in and your spine neutral. Squeeze the glutes and upper back thigh going up, then slowly back to the floor. Switch sides and repeat.

Time: 30 reps each side alternating side lift to back lift (for an extra challenge lift your standing heel into relevé (tip toe!).

 

Exercise 6: Under the Bent Leg Lift
This exercise works your glutes and inner thighs. Works our your biggest muscles, burning the most calories!

How to: Use a chair to press your heels together and open the balls of your feet two to three inches apart into a narrow v shape. Raise your heels, click them back together, bend your knees, and position your right foot in front of your left foot, while still on the balls of your feet. Keep your abs in and your spine neutral. Bend both knees down for 2 counts, then up for 2 counts. Switch and repeat.

Time: 30 reps on each side.

 

Exercise 7: Elbow Drops
This exercise strengthens your core muscles and works your arms in the process!

How to: Lift up onto a forearm side plank and bring your top hand behind your head and touch your elbow to the floor and open.

Modification: Keep your bottom knee on the ground!

Time: 30 reps on both sides (for an extra challenge, hold side plank for 30 seconds).

 

Lastly: Stretch and hydrate!

I hope that this inspires you to experiment with new exercises and push your body to hold poses longer and go deeper to find out what your body is made of!

SO quick update:


I decided I am a tea girl!

It was kind of a sad moment because the ambiance of sitting down with a cup of coffee is more magical than Disneyland. Unfortunately, after I have coffee, I might as well have been on an upside-down rollercoaster ride for 10 minutes straight.

I would get really jittery and have anxiety and brain fog mainly due to my adrenals not being able to take the hit. SOOO tea is my summer jam & I can dig!

My favorite iced teas to make and bring to the beach right now:

 Tropical Green Tea with Pineapple

  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 tropical green tag bags of your favorite brand (you can use more tea bags depending on your preference)
  • 1/2 ounce pineapple juice 
  • Ice

Mix all of the ingredients and refrigerate tea mixture. Allow tea mixture to sit for 30-60 minutes.

Herbal Teas with Muddled Berries/Figs

  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 herbal tag bags of your favorite brand (you can use more tea bags depending on your preference)
  • Chopped muddled berries/figs 
  • Ice

Mix all of the ingredients and refrigerate tea mixture. Allow tea mixture to sit for 30-60 minutes.

Black Tea with Lemon and Orange

  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 black tag bags of your favorite brand (you can use more tea bags depending on your preference)
  • Fresh slices of lemon and orange
  • Ice

Mix all of the ingredients and refrigerate tea mixture. Allow tea mixture to sit for 30-60 minutes.

5 Essential Beach Exercises

Happy Friday, Lavenderettes!

Summer is in full swing and there's no better time to start working out than now. There are so many benefits to working out in the heat and what better place to exercise outdoors than at the beach in the summertime? 

Here are five easy exercises that you can do the beach! 




1) Jog in Place
(warm up) *targets full body
It's important before every workout to warm up your muscles. An easy warm up exercise is to jog in place for 30 seconds to a minute. 

Super tip: If you want to challenge yourself, you can jog in place with ankle weights! 

2) Side Lunges *targets legs
12 reps x 3 sets
Start in a standing position with knees and hip slightly bent, feet shoulder-width apart, and chest up. While staying low, take a slow lateral step to one side while engaging your core, and then bring the leg back as you return to standing position. Repeat the same movement and alternate the legs. Both sides will count as one rep.  

3) Jump Squats *targets legs
10 reps x 3 sets
Stand shoulder-width apart. Begin with a regular squat and while engaging your core, jump up with strong force. As you land, resume squat position and repeat movements.  

4) Tricep Dips *targets shoulders and triceps
10 reps x 3 sets
This beach exercise requires you to be creative because you will need to use your surroundings! 

Using a ledge for balance, position your arms shoulder-width apart. Extend your legs forward so that as you bend your arms (like a dip), you will lower your body with control. Be sure to engage your core as you raise and dip your body. 


5) Russian Twists
*targets abs
20 reps x 3 sets
In sit up posture (your body should be in a V-shape), twist your torso from side to side while your hands touches down each time. This will complete one rep. Make sure to engage your core!

Everyone knows how important drinking water is for staying healthy and hydrated, but we’d be kidding ourselves if we said that we drank enough water daily! Drinking water is one of the simplest and most beneficial things that anyone can do for their overall health, but it’s also one of the things that most people forget to do.

One of our favorite #lifehacks that helps us drink more water is infusing it with fruits and vegetables. ‘Detox water’ or ‘infused water’ is nothing new, but for those that are just learning about this life-changing discovery, steeping certain fruits and vegetables into your water provides an array of health benefits, such as weight loss or skin-clearing.

Welcome to Our Summer Series!

 

Hello and Good Day, Lavenderette's! 

My name is Britney Egner and you may recognize me! I’ve been a model for Morning Lavender for the last two years- you might have seen my photos from their website and social media.  Most recently, I did a shoot for Morning Lavender’s Beach Collection.  I love working with Morning Lavender because they are more than just a clothing company - they are a lifestyle brand that wants to empower women and make them feel beautiful inside and out.

So I’m here today to tell you a little bit more about me.  I’m a free spirit and a sunshine and sand kinda girl from Southern California who craves an active lifestyle. I'm also lifestyle blogger and enjoy sharing my passion for writing, love for the camera, enthusiasm for health + wellness, and excitement on what's new in my life!

There’s a lot of information out there (especially on social media!) on how to look, eat, spend your time, and who to be. Well, I think it’s important to be just as happy as you are healthy!

5 Simple Tips For A Healthy Lifestyle

Bikinis are everywhere right now - in your favorite stores and online shops and you can’t help but feel a little guilty about eating that ice cream sundae last night (but #treatyoself). I was super nervous when I did my own bikini shoot for Morning Lavender so I feel ya! Summer is here, and I’m more than excited to share my tips on how to get bikini ready by incorporating small and simple healthy habits into your daily routine!  

When you love your body, your body will love you back. Get ready to “have your cake kale, and eat it too”!

1) Eat a Healthy Breakfast!  
Start with a healthy breakfast! - Fuel your body, don't just feed it! Breakfast energizes you for the day, starts off your metabolism and motivates you for a healthier rest of the day!

Bonus Tip! Stay far from sugary, processed foods or it will make you crash in energy. Also, if you are drinking juice in the morning, I don’t recommend drinking any store-bought juices because they are high in sugar and additives.

What I am loving right now: Overnight chia seed oats or avocado toast with poached egg 


2) Exercise
Incorporate a workout for at least 20 minutes (a little goes a long way!) in your day to get your heart and lungs pumping and your muscles moving. This will give your body the necessary movement it needs for those long sedentary work days! It also clears your mind, stimulates circulation, keeps your skin healthy and vibrant, helps prevent disease, and releases endorphins into your system increasing positivity, boosting energy, reducing stress, and keeping you fit!

Bonus Tip! My favorite way to exercise is by joining a class (like barre or spin) or get outside by incorporating cardio in a stair run, fast paced walk, or jog on the beach!

What I am loving right now: I love working out first thing in the mornings before work to jumpstart my day. I also make sure to walk around throughout the day to keep my body's blood flow circulating!

3) Stay Hydrated
This doesn't just include drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water but it also means drinking less caffeine! *gasp* one coffee a day can be a comforting and energizing habit but having two is when you start shocking your adrenals causing them to work harder which revs anxiety and causes dehydration, which can lead to headaches!

What I am loving right now: green tea (try Guayaki tea for a higher dose of caffeine)

4) Get proper sleep!
Your body and mind work so hard during the day, and use sleep for repairing! Give it some well-earned rest. Not to mention, you burn calories when you sleep! Say what!?

Bonus Tip: If you’re hungry before bed, have a snack that is high in protein so you are supporting your adrenals since they are wiped out from the carbs that turned into sugar throughout the day! This will help you sleep better throughout the night! (try: almond butter and celery!)

What I am loving right now: Diffusing 100% pure grade lavender oil, stretching before bed, and going to bed at a decent time.


5) Feed your soul
This is extremely vital for your health! We find ourselves “adulting;” stuck in a fast-paced society that is more loud and complex than ever. Finding time for self-care will in turn feed your mental health meter keeping up your immune system and overall, leave you refreshed. This is where you find what relaxes you best! It could be cuddling with your dog, spending time with a community of positive uplifting people, meditation, prayer, dancing or singing, taking a brisk walk, or maybe even sitting in complete silence.

What I am loving right now: I love setting my phone in the other room and spending time with my husband. I also love stretching and taking walks around our neighborhood with a warm cup of tea.
